Engaging our System Leaders

We foster dialogue among system executives and offer opportunities to actively shape polices and set direction for the association and field. Serving on AHA’s Board of Trustees, Committee on Health Care Strategy and Innovation or one of nine Regional Policy Boards are formal roles in governance and/or policy. Executives may also participate in/on:

  • AHA Health Care Systems Council leads the AHA Section for Health Care Systems by providing guidance on key policy and advocacy
  • Regional Policy Boards foster communication between the AHA, its members and state hospital associations and provide input on public policy issues unique to a region
  • Health Care Systems Leadership Retreat coalesces system colleagues by invitation with the AHA Board of Trustees and AHA senior leaders to share unique leadership perspectives and candidly discuss challenges and opportunities facing system executives across the country.
  • Provider-Led Health Plans Strategic Leadership Group guides policy and advocacy agendas for members with health plans and directs the AHA on timely and impactful research and pilots to support these members and the field.
  • Academic Medical Centers and Teaching Hospitals Strategic Leadership Group guides the AHA academic medical center and teaching hospital policy and advocacy agendas, including graduate medical education funding and workforce issues.
  • Post-acute Care Systems Strategic Leadership Group provides guidance on broad legislative and policy issues related to the continuum of care, with a focus on post-acute care.
  • Leadership Briefings provide timely updates and seek system leaders input on rapidly changing health care delivery and financing proposals
  • Committee on Clinical Leadership seeks advice from system clinical leaders on policy and advocacy issues to advance excellence in patient care.
  • Health Care System Executive Meetings gather small groups of like health care system executives, including general counsel, government relations officers and chief information officers, to guide AHA on system issues impacting their respective areas.
  • Advocacy Alliances including the Advocacy Alliance for Coordinated Care, the Advocacy Alliance for the 340B Drug Pricing Program, and the Advocacy Alliance for Rural Hospitals.
