Nicholas Tejeda to receive 2020 AHA Board of Trustees Award

WASHINGTON (December 9, 2020) – The American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced that Nicholas Tejeda, Group CEO of The Hospitals of Providence in El Paso, Texas, which is a member of Tenet Healthcare, and 2021 AHA Board of Trustees member, will be awarded its 2020 Board of Trustees Award. The Award is presented to individuals or groups who have made substantial and noteworthy contributions to the work of the AHA.

Tejeda has served within The Hospitals of Providence since 2015.  Prior to coming to El Paso he served in senior leadership roles throughout California and Nevada. Tejeda was the 2019 chair for AHA’s Institute for Diversity and Health Equity, previously served as president of the National Association for Latino Healthcare Executives, and maintains an adjunct faculty appointment with the School of Nursing at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.

“Nico is known for his ability to inspire hope in others. As a leader on the front lines of diversity and equity of care he has pushed the field to work on improving diversity and equity of care for patients and for health care leaders,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack.

Within the communities he has served, Tejeda has been recognized as a compassionate leader committed to improving healthcare access and elevating the quality of care available to all individuals regardless of their background. This is particularly relevant in El Paso which is amongst the largest bi-national metropolitan areas in the world.  His continued work to ensure healthcare equity for all is evident through his efforts with the AHA, as well as many other organizations, nationally and in El Paso.
